"NOTHING'S GONNA CHANGE MY LOVE FOR YOU"
They say you learn something every day, and today I learned that this song was originally recorded by George Benson in 1984 and released as a single in Europe during 1985.
The cover by Glenn Medeiros was released as the lead single from his self titled debut album, and reached #12 in the U.S. during 1987. However, the single wasn't released until 1988 in the UK, but went on to reach No.1 in the UK singles chart on 3rd July 1988, where it remained for four weeks, preventing The Fat Boys and Chubby Checker with "The Twist (Yo, Twist) and Salt-N-Pepa with "Push It" from reaching No.1 during this time.
Medeiros also released the single in Spanish, which helped it to top charts in Spain. The single was also a chart-topper in Canada, Ireland and The Netherlands. Three versions of the song were included on the UK 12 inch vinyl; Extended, Seven Inch and Instrumental. The Instrumental featured as the B-side to the 7 inch vinyl single.
The Hawaiian-born singer (with Portuguese ancestry) originally released the song on a small record label when he was just 16 years old, after winning a talent contest on an Hawaiian radio station. A radio executive from KZZP in Phoenix, Arizona was on a visit and heard the song, which he then played on the station which helped the song become a hit in the U.S.
The video features the singer walking, running and riding a horse along a coastline with a blonde girl wearing a pink dress. Glenn wears three different tops in the video, a white T-shirt, a pale yellow short-sleeved shirt and a white jacket. That's about as exciting as it gets!
Although the ballad was the only Top 40 hit for the singer in the UK during the 1980s, he was saved from being a one hit wonder when he reached #12 in 1990 with the single "She Ain't Worth It", which featured a rap from Bobby Brown. The song reached No.1 in the U.S.
Medeiros released a cover of Jermaine Jackson's "Lonely Won't Leave Me Alone" as his follow-up single, but it failed to chart in the UK and only reached #67 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Glenn is still very much alive and kicking, and has been the President/CEO of St. Louis School in Honolulu Oahu since 2017. He has been married to his wife Tammy since 1996, and they have a son and daughter.
